It's a beautiful day in Dublin. The sun is shining, everyone's in a great mood and the weekend is finally here. It's been a great week! Here's my 5-Bullet Friday for September's last week:
If you haven't gotten around to checking out the new IT remake then I highly recommend heading along to the cinema this weekend. It's basically a feature long version of Stranger Things, but with some funnier kids and a hell of a lot more terrifying. Oh, and there's a clown. Here's the synopsis "Seven young outcasts in Derry, Maine, are about to face their worst nightmare - an ancient, shape-shifting evil that emerges from the sewer every 27 years to prey on the town's children. Banding together over the course of one horrifying summer, the friends must overcome their own personal fears to battle the murderous, bloodthirsty clown known as Pennywise.". I don't want to give too much away, but check out the trailer below..
“Life is too short to be living someone else's dreams.” - Hugh Hefner (RIP)
I finally gave into my inner child and got myself a Switch, the new console from Nintendo. Easily the most innovative gaming console from the geniuses that they are, it's both a TV docked and handheld system that can easily be brought anywhere you go. Off on a long plane/train journey but can't bring too much with you? Don't worry. Need to go to the toilet but are so addicted to Mario you just can't stop playing? Problem solved. I picked up the new Legend of Zelda and Mario Kart with it and they're so good. The last versions of both games that I have are nearly 15 years old, so it's a great trip down memory lane. Check out the promo video below to see how truly mobile it is. I promise they're not paying me for this write up!
If you haven't heard, Twitter this week announced that they've started testing 280 character tweets. This doubles the previous character limit (140 if you can't do the math) in "an effort to help users be more expressive". Why did they begin with only 140 way back in 2006 you ask? Well the 140 character limit was originally established to reflect the length of text/SMS messages. Originally if you didn't have access to your computer, tweets were able to be sent via text before the development of mobile apps. Texts are limited to 160 characters, and the remaining 20 characters were kept for your username. I remember texting my tweets at one stage but I'm sure most of you can't even imagine tweeting outside of your phone. Feels a bit alien to me now!
Is the increase in characters a last-ditch effort by Twitter to stay relevant, or is it part of a clever strategic plan? I'd love to hear what you think, so leave a comment below with your thoughts.
Chance the Rapper debuted a new song during the week on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Really beautiful and unexpected.
