Whether it's waking up to the news that your favourite musical icon has passed, your friend Jenny if off on another passive aggressive rant on Facebook or simply your bank balance is a good bit lower than you expected. It gets even the best of us thinking that life just isn't fair. That our lives experience more bad times than good, and that the world is a shitty cruel place. But if we really delve deeper and think about it, we can see that there's so much more good and kindness in the world - we just need to appreciate it. That's where the #SoundEffect campaign comes in.
A Lust for Life and Pieta House have teamed up to launch #SoundEffect. #SoundEffect is an online campaign aimed at highlighting the little moments of soundness that happen everyday, uncovering the power and importance of being sound to one another and ourselves during our day to day lives.
CEO of Pieta House, Brian Higgins, explains: “What we are trying to do here is turn up the volume on what is right, increasing awareness of what it means to be sound, and using that wave of positivity to drown out the negative noise our online spaces are awash in.”
It's pretty simple. All you have to do is share your experience of soundness in the world. It might be the soundest thing someone has done for you, something sound you recently did for a friend or strange, or even something sound you did just for yourself. Anything from the smallest gesture to the grandest of deeds. As long as it's positive - it's sound. Share a story, photo, video or anything you like. Just make sure to include the hashtag #SoundEffect and let's spread a little more soundness in the world.
Oh, and if you're heading along to Electric Picnic this weekend, the #SoundEffect team will be exploring the the concepts of ‘being sound’ and mental wellness with a heap of great guests of the weekend. They'll also be presenting the Wall of Sound, a physical representation of the #SoundEffect in The Mindfield area of the festival. Definitely go and check it.
Personally I love the idea. I'm a big believer in harnessing positivity and not letting our natural negativity bias get the better of us. This is a fantastic, simple way of spreading positive vibes from our own experiences as well as witnessing all the great stories and happy people that are out there. I've already seen and shared some #SoundEffect moments, and I plan on making the most of it for the duration of the campaign. I hope you do too.
